Maroon 5 and Christina catch some disco fever

Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera get all funky on their new single "Moves Like Jagger".

The video features a topless Adam Levine and a very well-lit and tightly-framed Christina cavorting around a lot of sexy women dressed like Mick Jagger. The video is framed with an old, and humbling, interview with Mick, who clearly had no idea at the time how much of an impact he would have on music history.

But, it seems that history isn't Adam and Christina's strong suit. After all, why is a song about Mick Jagger all disco? Shouldn't it be more classic Brit rock?

Jared Leto as Kurt Cobain

Last Tuesday was the 17th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death. 17 years later, the effect he had on the music scene is still seen and heard today.

To mark the occassion, Jared Leto posted a video he made of him in character as Kurt, which he did for himself to explore his character when there was talk of making a movie about Kurt's life.

I gotta say, the look and sound is so much like the real thing, it's uncanny. If this movie ever does get made, Jared is the clear choice for the role.

Watch him perform "Pennyroyal Tea" and "Rape Me" below!

Lil Wayne has been Incepted

Lil Wayne's released the lead single from his upcoming album Tha Carter IV, called "6' 7'"

Clearly, Weezy loved the movie Inception, because the video is one big fat homage to the amazing film.

Of course, what's running around in Lil Wayne's head is visions of hot girls, drinks, a CGI pug (did no one have a real dog?) and his protegé, Cory Gunz, who spits out a nearly incoherant verse toward the end.

The video would have looked better if he had more of a budget, which is a shame.

As for the song, I have no idea what it's about. All I know is that Weezy's new voice is annoying. I guess it's better than his use of Auto-Tune?

Respect the Queen

So, The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Museum recently announced that it will host a new exhibition called Women Who Rock: Vision, Passion, Power, which obviously pays respect to the woman's role in rock music history.

I'd just like to point out that out of 8 sections of the exhibit, Madonna is the only artist who has one named after her. Read!

Causing a Commotion: Madonna and the Pop Explosion
Madonna unapologetically celebrated and monetized her sexuality and physicality, paving the way for female performers to explore previously taboo roles and take control of their image and career. Highlighted artists will include Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani and Janet Jackson.

That's right. Respect. Say what you will about her, but there's no denying that Madonna's influence runs deeper than you'd probably like to believe.

Cut Copy go everywhere

Wow.

Australian indie band Cut Copy, who I love, have released a new track called "Take Me Over"...and to my pleasant surprise, they sampled one of my favourite songs by Fleetwood Mac "Everywhere"!

It's really cool how Cut Copy's lyrics carry the same feeling of love, romance and adventure that the originating Fleetwood Mac song did. Very smart.

I'm so loving this song!

Gorillaz are upstaged by a video that dares to not use CGI

Gorillaz are pretty amazing in the sense that they are an animated band and every video showcases the latest in CGI animation and wizardry.

So, it's a big feat when a fan video is made using barley any effects at all.

Here's their video for "On Melancholy Hill", which is pretty cool, but doesn't make any sense.

And here's a video made by a director named Chateau that is made using only neon street signs in New York City.

Dare I say, the second version is way cooler than the original?

What do you think?

Keri Hilson makes an anthem for conceited bitches

(In other words... me. KIDDING!!!... ?)

I like Keri Hilson. I really do.

But her new single, "Pretty Girl Rock", is really annoying. It's basically a song apologizing to all the men who can't handle her beauty. Maybe I'm missing the point, but that's what I'm hearing and it's annoying.

I mean, there's a difference between having some swagger and confidence, than being just plain conceited.

Fortunately, the video is cute and kind of salvages the song. Keri pays homage to musical beauties of colour from the past (Josephine Baker, Dorothy Dandridge, Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Janet Jackson, T-Boz from TLC), and inadvertantly lumps herself into the same category.

It's well-executed, but seems like the message is foggy. Definitely worth a watch though. I mean, she is beautiful after all. So don't hate.
