Natalia Kills gives it away for free

There was a time, before she found Jesus, that all Lady Gaga sang about was fame and fashion. And while I don't disagree with Gaga's new lyrical inspiration, I miss the element of simplicity.

So, Natalia Kills fills that void quite nicely. I've loved every single she's released so far. Her knack for exploring the darker side of pop music is something that is refreshing in this day of big pop stars singing about nothing more than partying and hookups.

With "Free", we find Natalia at her cheekiest and most lighthearted. The ode to living large on a small budget is visually counterpointed with video that looks like a Vogue photo shoot from the 80s, right down to the big shoulder pads and androgynous fashion.

And of course, she pokes fun at the concept of haute couture with jarrring shots of her head on a bodybuilder's body, her neck stretched out in tribal fashion and her hair bun on fire.

The song, produced by will.i.am, who also guests on the track, is insanely catchy and fun. I can't wait for her debut Perfectionist to finally be released in August.

LMFAO: Vampire slayers

I know that LMFAO are a fun pop band that I shouldn't really lose any sleep over. They make fun pop songs, with funny videos that really aren't going to have an impact on the social fabric of our culture.

But, their vapidness just bugs me. Also, the fact that they've reduced Natalia Kills from an interesting pop star to an auto-tuned robot.

Anyway, "Champagne Showers" picks up a week after they battled shufflin' zombies in "Party Rock Anthem". Now, they're looking for a big party, and the find one, hosted by vampires. It's like Fangtasia on True Blood....but not as sexy. Of course, they end up battling the vampires with holy champagne given to them by Jesus. Yeah, I don't know.

What is a champagne shower, anyway? Is this all some kind of euphemism for ejaculating on all over someone? Those dance moves make me think so.

Natalia Kills takes me to Wonderland

Natalia Kills is continuing her steady climb to superstardom. Her much anticipated album Perfectionist, was released in Germany last week and she's dropped a video for her latest single "Wonderland".

It's another deliciously dark pop song from the Brit singer, which finds her reconciling her cycisim with fairytale romances with the feelings of love a certain fella is making her feel.

Lyrically, she cleverly references all of the standard fairy tales, from Cinderella to Beauty and the Beast, but it's Alice in Wonderland that gets the central focus in the video. But, in Natalia's world, the oppression felt under the Red Queen's rule is much more military and frightening. Natalia is forced to sit at a tea party and eat cupcakes sprinkled with barbituates before she rebels. Which leads to a pretty dire consequence.

I love Natalia and I really can't wait for her album to drop in Canada. She's someone who is going to have legs in this race to chart domination. And I'll proudly say I've been a fan from the beginning.

Natalia Kills shows her talent with acoustic performance.

It's not hard to compare Natalia Kills to Lady Gaga. Not only do they share the same label, but they both share an artistic vision that's bigger than just music and have a great appreciation for fashion. Plus, Natalia's single "Mirrors" does sound very Gaga, though I've been stressing for months now that, after listening to other songs, she doesn't sound like Lady Gaga at all.

But, if you're going to model your career after anyone, Lady Gaga is as good a role model to have as any.

Remember when Lady Gaga first came out, and after she got the buzz going, she did an acoustic version of "Poker Face" and "Paparazzi"? That was when people started seeing her more as a talented musician, not just a flash-in-the-pan popstar.

Well, Natalia has kind of gone the similar route, performing an acoustic set of "Mirrors" and showcases her stellar voice.

I'm going to keep saying this till people listen to me - Natalia Kills is going to make it big this year!

Natalia Kills activates

I'm telling you guys, Natalia Kills is going to be getting lots of attention this year.

She's released a third single from her upcoming album Perfectionist, "Activate My Heart". The song sounds more authentic than "Mirrors" which drew lots of comparisons to her labelmate, Lady Gaga. It also carries on the album's theme of equating perfect forms with emotional detachment.

I can't wait for her album to drop in March, and in the meantime, I'll get a sneak peek of her when she opens for Robyn in Toronto in a couple of weeks!

Natalia Kills sings of sex, love, control and vanity

I've been patiently waiting for Natalia Kills debut album Perfectionist to drop, and it seems it's being readied for January. Thank the gods!

Ever since her first single, "Zombie" came out, I knew that the British pop singer, who is also Lady Gaga's label mate, would be one to watch. She's a singer, producer, director and fashionista and she WAS set to open for Robyn in Toronto in November, and I was pumped that I would get to see her open the show...but Robyn got sick, blah blah blah. I wonder if she'll open for the rescheduled date in January.

Anyway, her new video "Mirrors" is pretty cool - especially because it's in 3 acts, but still short. The only thing I don't like is how similar it sounds to Gaga. I've heard a couple of her other tracks and I guarantee that's not the case.

Check her out below. I know you'll be hearing much more of her in the upcoming year.
