Selena Gomez loves her life

The bane of almost every teenage girl's exisitence, Selena Gomez, has released a new single and video called "Who Says".

The song is an empowering "love yourself" ditty that strives to be PG-version of P!nk's anthem "Fuckin' Perfect".

While nowhere near as provocative as P!nk's video, Selena's is pretty cute and simple. It starts off with her doing a photo shoot before walking the streets barefoot, passing street signs that conveniently are lyrics to her song. I had really hoped that those signs were real and that they actually scouted for them. But when I saw the airplane message, I realized that was not the case. It's a shame cuz that would have made the video infinitely cooler.

Anyway, Selena ends up on the beach with her band The Scene and a bunch of her fans for an impromptu concert.

Yeah it's nothing amazing, but it's cute.

My only gripe is when she says she wouldn't want to be anyone else but her. Um, duh! You're a teen superstar dating Justin Bieber. I'm sure you're happy with your life, but I know a girl or a million who'd gladly trade their lives to be yours. When you think about it that way, Selena comes off a bit smug, don't you think? Or am I just a jaded old cynic?

P!nk gives love to anyone less than perfect

P!nk truly is the celebrity champion of underdogs and those who are misunderstood.

In her new video for "Fuckin' Perfect", P!nk chronicles the life of a misguided girl who always seems to be punished for expressing what she believes in. From fighting a boy at school to decided to dress like a punk chick, she can't catch a break. This leads to her being envious and hateful toward the pretty girls in high school, an attempt at shoplifting and, sadly, suicide. It's pretty graphic.

But, there's hope! She finally decides to live life on her terms, becomes a successful artist and finds love.

One can't help but think this story is not unlike P!nk's actual life experience.

On P!nk's blog, she explains the she intended for the video to be shocking, in order to continue to shed light on the problem of alienation and depression:

I support the kids out there that feel so desperate/numb/powerless, that feel unseen and unheard, and can't see another way.. I want them to know I'm aware. I have been there. I see them.
Sometimes that's all it takes.

Making this video was a very emotional experience for me, as was writing this song. I have a life inside of me, and I want her or him to know that I will accept him or her with open and loving and welcoming arms. And though I will prepare this little munchkin for a sometimes cruel world, I will also equip this kid to see all the beauty in it as well.

Hear, hear.

It's a powerful song and a moving video. So check it out.

How about we imagine this didn't exist

I couldn't even get through this song.

Herbie Hancock along with P!nk, Seal and India.Arie (holy punctuation!) decided to do some kind of jazzy version of John Lennon's "Imagine".

It's horrible. No disrespect to any of these artists involved. But, all y'all fucked it up.

People need to just leave this song alone. And if you feel the need to cover it, at least don't screw around with the instrumentation.

Suddenly, I want this to happen

I didn't know Pink co-wrote Adam Lambert's hit "Whataya Want From Me", which was scrapped from her last album before it wound up in Glambert's hands.

And now, thanks to the power of the internet, someone has mashed-up both versions to make a pretty cool duet.

And, suddenly, I'm very curious to see a proper duet between these two.

I love how their voices just work together. And when you think about it, they kinda look the same, too. Hmmm... stay tuned.

Pink toasts the underdogs

In the wake of Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Ke$ha all taking a strong and empowering stance for celebrating your individuality, it should be noted that Pink has been rooting for the underdogs for years now.

And she's reminding us with her new video for "Raise Your Glass", where she makes statements about same-sex marriage, body issues, animals rights, religious freedom, the economic divide and ... something to do with breast milk, all in a comical yet respectful manner.

When you think about it, Pink's always been an underdog herself, coming out in a time of Britney's and Christinas, yet being brave enough to forge her own path and, in the end, coming out on top as a well-respected, if still underrated, pop star.
