Theophilus London kicks it old school
I was first introduced to Theophilus London when he did the guest vocals for Maximum Balloon's "Groove Me". And it seems that since then, this Brooklyn-based hip hop artist has been slowly getting more exposure.
His new single and video "Flying Overseas" features Devonte Hynes and Solange Knowles (or as Michael K from Dlisted.com referes to her, "Basement Baby") and I'm really digging it.
The minimal beat with the retro sound reminds me of the music my dad would listen to when I was a kid. And the video has a matching retro style, right down to the over-saturated colours and grainy film stock look. Even the wardrobe screams 80s.
And, it's just a sweet song. It's nice to hear a hip hop song that isn't about gangstas, hos and bitches.
